Star anise is the unusual fruit of a small evergreen tree which grows in southwestern China and Japan. The fruit is picked before it can ripen, and dried. The whole stars can be added directly to the cooking pot or can be ground, as required. Use small amounts, as the spice has a strong, distinct, sweet and spicy flavor, similar to licorice.
USAGE
- Asian and Indian cuisines
- Simmer whole pods in sauces, marinades, and soups, and then remove before serving

STORAGE
To preserve natural flavor, store in a cool, dry area in sealed containers for shelf life of up to one year from date of manufucture without loss of flavor and/or functionality.
